Selby District Vision provides a wide range of services for sight impaired people in the Selby District area.
ACTIVITIES AND BENEFICIARIES
The main activities of Selby District Vision are:
Outreach service – home visits are offered to provide a comprehensive assessment of needs and to give a guide to further services available locally. Regular information displays, talks and demonstrations are carried out at sight clinics and to the public in general through lunch clubs, for example.
A Resource Centre of equipment and information provides an accessible and comprehensive display of aids and equipment for the visually impaired, their carers and the community. All equipment sales are not for profit.
A Mobile Resource Centre equipment and information clinic style displays. Demonstrating equipment throughout the Selby district. All equipment sales are not for profit.
A quarterly newsletter available in large print, Braille and on tape, and a telephone enquiry service to provide regular contact with our 460 clients and their carers.
A Volunteer Home Visiting scheme to provide regular social contact for our most vulnerable clients who are unable to leave their homes or who need assistance with day to day tasks, such as reading mail.
Regular Social Activity Groups are held at different venues throughout the district for the purpose of contact, recreation and exercise. These give an opportunity to learn new skills, meet other people with similar issues and to provide a regular outing.
A Loan Service provides expensive magnifiers to the people who find it assists them.
Transport is provided to all our services to overcome one of the most significant barriers faced by people with sight loss living in rural areas.
A Volunteer Scheme trains, supports and encourages people to assist with all our activities. Our volunteers are mostly retired and some are sight impaired. |
